Christmas, Presents, and … an ER trip?

Christmas is not really my holiday.  There are a few old family traditions that i follow from childhood; but i’m not big on the huge family celebrations and i don’t like traveling and dealing with family drama.  Christmas, to me, is celebrated for my kids.  i love watching them opening their gifts.  Watching as my living room becomes a mess of wrapping paper and cardboard.  i’m the photographer of the family so i’m always trying to capture every moment, the joy, and the perfect expression.  i don’t want to have to stop to open my own presents.  Occurring to me now, in this submissive role, that i’m much more of a giver than a receiver and i’m uncomfortable being the center of attention and receiving something.

Got up super early and was able to open up a few of my presents (the ones from Master to his submissive) in private on the phone early in the morning.  i sent all of His early, fretted about them making it in time, and was relieved when they arrived last week.  Normal presents from our kids to their Daddy…clothes and an Old Spice gift set, a couple funny gag gifts from His very snarky wife…

And one very special present from scarlet to her Master…

i wanted Him to have something to remind Him that He is my Master.  That i am His.  Granted it’s not something that He can wear openly, but under His shirt He can, and it will remind Him that i am His.

But wow!  i am a very spoiled whore!  Magic Wand and variable speed control!  Then there are all these wonderful attachment pieces to go on the end of the wand.  OMG, i can not wait to try this out! (But fuck, does it have to be so loud? Now i have to wait till after the grandma leaves this weekend! :/ )

The kids really enjoyed their Christmas.  i was happy for them, yet sad that we were missing part of our family.  It’s really hard to wrangle children, hand out presents, record video, take pictures, and make sure nothing important gets thrown away all at the same time when there’s only one of you!  Plus, i was running at a very low operating level Christmas day.

About 10 pm Christmas Eve, i developed a massive migraine.  Not the kind that come on slow and work their way to full strength or the ones that i can usually just tough through.  This was the sudden onset, straight to 10, knock-you-on-your-ass migraine.  i had just finished up wrapping presents and was about to straighten up the kitchen before going to make a short video for Master.  Nope…not happening.

Up at midnight to get sick.  Up at 1am…2am…2:30am…egh, you get the idea. Now there’s been some “if it could go wrong, it’s gone wrong” shit happen in the past couple of weeks.  And there’s been some annoying “why must this shit break now” too.  i swear i need an exterminator to get Murphy out of my house.  i’m curled up in bed in the fetal position and all i can think is of course you’re sick, something had to happen today.  Yet, my usual snarkiness was failing me to find the funny in this one.  It hurt too much to cry though.

Got up and did presents with Master, then toughed through presents with the kids.  Then spent every possible moment on the couch with a space heater as close as possible under a blanket.  i just could not get warm and i hurt and i had chills and i wanted to die.  And the toddler wanted to scream.

By the end of the day, i ended up in sitting at the ER…exactly how i imagined my Christmas Eve going.  So thankful for a friend that helped me out, but i felt so bad that i had barely spent anytime with my kids on Christmas and here i was spending several hours of the late evening in the ER getting fluids for severe dehydration and a shot for my migraine.

Took me a couple of days to figure out the bright side to being sick at the holidays…i didn’t gain any weight!  Didn’t lose any either, but at least i came out the other side of Christmas without having to worry about resetting my goals.

Merry Christmas!

Saw this meme on DelFonte's blog and thought it would be a fun post for the holidays.  i hope that everyone is enjoying spending time with their loved ones.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I hate wrapping gifts, i hate wrapping paper, i almost threw one of the presents across the room the other night when i tore the paper twice on the corners while wrapping (why must the paper be so thin?!).  I would do gift bags, but kids don’t find gift bags as fun to tear into.

2. Real tree or artificial?
Real…definitely.  This is a must.

3. When do you put up the tree?
The weekend after Thanksgiving usually.  But this year we were out of town and with Master gone this year, the whole process was a little complicated so it finally got done about the 11th.

4. When do you take the tree down?
The weekend following New Years (so the tree can go out for trash pickup)

5. Does Santa wrap presents or just put them under the tree?
Santa wraps.  Santa also leaves an unwrapped special gift.

6. Colored or white lights on tree or house?
White lights on the tree.  Kids have their own individual trees with colored lights.

7. Do you hang mistletoe?
No.

8. Do you like eggnog or hot chocolate?
I like one glass of eggnog a year and then hot chocolate the rest of the time.

9. Favorite gift received as a child?
My first computer – ACER 486DX

10. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
Singing Christmas carols in the German neighborhood where we lived.

11. Hardest person to buy for?
My husband.  We buy what we want throughout the year so there is rarely that “perfect gift” left by Christmas time.

12. Easiest person to buy for?
My daughter – she circles half the American Girl catalog for me.

13. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
7 or 8.  A friend’s older brother spoiled it for us.

14. Do you have a nativity scene?
No.

15. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail…sometimes they even get mailed on time, lol.

16. Snow! Love it or dread it?
i love the idea of snow and a White Christmas, but i really only like snow for a couple days at a time.  Then i want it to warm up and melt.  So the fantasy is always better than the reality.

17. Worst Christmas gift ever received.
A Bible Study and new Bible.

18. Can you ice skate?
I have not been since i was a kid and now i have really bad knees so i know how to, but it’s not recommended.

19. Favorite Christmas movie?
Miracle on 34th Street, the original from 1947 with Maureen O’Hara

20. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Sometime in Nov, though occasionally things might be ordered early.  I’m a huge fan of Amazon Prime and having the majority of my shopping purchased delivered via my friendly UPS driver.

21. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Fudge  watching my kids open their presents, seeing the joy and excitement.

22. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Fudge!

23. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Yes.  And i’ve even admitted to it.  In fact, we had a White Elephant/Dirty Santa at a late holiday party in Jan once where the requirement was to bring a present that you received but didn’t want.  It was so much fun!

24. Which do you prefer giving or receiving?
Giving.

25. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Fudge!

26. Favorite Christmas song?
Carol of the Bells

27. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
stay home.  Too much family at the holidays can be a little overwhelming.

28. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?
Of course!  That’s why there’s a song.

29. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Neither…snowman.  (kids…once they’re older, probably a star)

30. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Morning.

31. Favorite ornament theme or color?
No theme.  One year i’ll have a grown-up looking tree with a theme.  I’d like to go with blue and white.

32. Favorite for Christmas dinner?
Ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and apple pie.

33. What do you want for Christmas this year?
My Master home.  But we’re still a ways off from that so let’s go with a kid-free weekend.  That sounds nice.

With a side of vanilla...

Yes, i’m still here.  It’s been a crazy couple of weeks.  i think Murphy has taken up permanent residence in my house.  He can leave at any time, but he’s not taking my hints.

The vanilla side of my life has tipped the scale a little in the last couple of weeks.  There’s been a lot going on, but most of it relates to Mom stuff, student stuff, and my volunteer stuff.

i finally got our Christmas tree up and the house somewhat decorated (you can shove a real 6” tree in the trunk of a sedan!).  Which means our elf had to finally make an appearance.  Our elf has been a little lazy this year, but the kids haven’t seemed to notice.  i forget how hard it is to do everything without a second set of hands.  i’m staring at a pile of presents that i just don’t want to wrap.  Very ready for them to be old enough to throw everything in one large gift bag.  Hand it over on Christmas morning and be done.  No, i will never be one of those overachiever moms.

Schools out for…Christmas! (yes, i’m channeling Alice Cooper here).  i was so ready for those two classes to be over.  i’m happy with my grades and my GPA.  5 classes to go till graduation!

Aunt Flo came by last week and helped out so i didn’t have any training while i studied for finals…probably one of the few times that i was grateful for a visit.

i do some volunteer work that can be really draining on my time.  It’s hard to tell how much time i’m going to have to devote to it as it involves outreach and support.  In a give week, it could be a few minutes to several hours.  And sometimes i’m needed when i don’t want to be needed.  i enjoy it for the most part.  i know that it’s important and needed.  The last couple of weeks have just been crazy!  i have wanted to hide so many times.

Spent this week getting ready for Christmas, getting caught up on some things and back into the swing of training (posts coming).  The entire first week of my vacation flew by before i managed to get a blog post written.

Oh well…
